Artist Residence Permit: Working in the Arts in France

The artist residence permit (or talent passport for artists) allows foreign artists to work in the cultural sector in France: performing arts, music, visual arts, cinema, etc.

This guide explains the conditions, procedure, and specifics of the foreign artist status in France.

🎭 What is the artist residence permit?

There are two permits for foreign artists:

A 4-year multi-year permit, renewable, for artists of national or international renown or with a proven artistic project.

Advantages:

  • 4-year duration
  • Simplified procedure
  • Immediate family reunification
2. Temporary residence card "employee" (for artists)

A 1-year permit, renewable, for artists employed by a French employer (company, theater, producer).

Procedure: requires a work authorization from DREETS + opinion from DRAC (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs).
